Transparency

Every network call our apps make — explained in plain English.

“We build quietly. We operate transparently.”

Our apps are offline-first. Your content never leaves your device. Our doctrine permits two narrow exceptions for operational transparency — and we believe you deserve to know exactly what they are, when they apply, and how to turn them off.

What Never Leaves Your Device

This is an absolute guarantee, built into our architecture — not a policy we can change overnight:

  • Your journal entries, soundscapes, notes, or any content you create
  • Your name, email, Apple ID, or any personal identifier
  • Your location (we never request location permission)
  • Your listening habits, session content, or behavioral patterns
  • Any data that could identify you as a specific person

We do not have a server that holds your data. We literally cannot see it. This is not marketing — it is the technical reality of how our apps are built.

The Two Permitted Exceptions

These are the only network calls our Sanctuary Series apps make. Any addition requires a public update to this page.

📡

Exception 1: Anonymous Analytics

Firebase Analytics — Planned for a future Drift update (not active in v1.1.1)

We plan to use Firebase Analytics configured with AnalyticsWithoutAdIdSupport — Apple's privacy-preserving analytics mode. This is not active yet. When it ships, it will tell us:

  • How many installs and daily sessions occurred (a count, not a who)
  • Which sounds or features are used most (feature name only)
  • App version distribution (so we know when to retire old builds)
  • Device class: iPhone or iPad (not a specific model)
  • Country (derived from IP address by Google — not stored by us)

❌ NOT Used

  • Advertising Identifier (IDFA)
  • App Tracking Transparency prompt
  • Cross-app tracking
  • Behavioral profiling

✅ Guaranteed

  • No personal identifiers
  • Aggregated counts only
  • Opt-out in Settings → Privacy
  • No ATT prompt shown

Why opt-in (not opt-out)? Drift is built by a tiny indie studio. Knowing how many people use the app — and which sounds they love — helps us stay sustainable and build what you actually need. But that decision belongs to you. Analytics will be disabled by default. On first launch after the update, you will see a simple screen explaining exactly what we collect and why, and be asked to choose. One tap either way — no dark patterns, no pressure.

Why it's still anonymous: We see counts, not people. No event can be linked back to you as an individual. If you say no, nothing is ever sent. If you change your mind later, the toggle lives in Settings → Privacy.

Who will receive this: Google (aggregated, anonymous only). Status: Planned — not active in Drift v1.1.1.

🍎

Exception 2: Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchases)

Platform Infrastructure — Required by Apple

If you purchase a paid feature (e.g. Drift Lifetime Access), the transaction is processed by Apple. This is a mandatory requirement for any iOS app that sells in-app purchases — we cannot bypass it.

❌ Ekoche Never Receives

  • Your name or email
  • Your credit card or payment info
  • Your Apple ID
  • Your purchase history

✅ What Happens

  • Apple processes payment
  • An encrypted receipt is stored locally on your device
  • No Ekoche server is involved
  • No opt-out needed — no data flows to us

Who receives this: Apple only. Governed by: Apple's Privacy Policy.

Whispering Thoughts — Private Journal

Coming soon — Whispering Thoughts is currently in development. This table will be completed before its App Store release.

Our Commitment

If we ever add a new network call to any app, we will:

  • Update this Transparency page before the app update ships
  • Update the app's Privacy Policy
  • Increment the app version number
  • Describe it in the App Store release notes

We will never retroactively collect datafrom previous app versions. If you don't update the app, the previous privacy guarantees remain in effect.
