Drift — Spatial Sleep Sounds
The Short Version
Drift collects zero personal data. Your soundscapes stay on your device. We cannot see what you play, what you save, or who you are. No analytics. No telemetry. No servers. This is not marketing — this is our architecture.
What We Collect
Nothing personal. Ever.
Drift does not collect:
- Your identity (name, email, Apple ID, IP address)
- What sounds you play or mixes you save
- Your listening habits or session content
- Location (precise or approximate)
- In-app purchase history
- Audio recordings or microphone access
- Any identifier that could be linked to you as a person
What we collect from the app: nothing. The current version of Drift (v1.1.1) contains zero analytics, zero telemetry, and makes zero data network calls. Your app usage is completely invisible to us.
Coming in a future update — Anonymous Analytics (opt-in): We are planning to add optional, anonymous usage analytics in a future version.
Why opt-in? Drift is built by a tiny indie studio. Knowing how many people use the app — and which sounds they love — helps us stay sustainable and build what you actually need, not what we guess you want. But we believe that decision belongs to you, not us. So analytics will be disabled by default. On first launch after the update, you will be shown a simple screen explaining what we collect and why, and asked to choose. One tap either way — no dark patterns, no pressure.
Why it's still anonymous: We use Firebase Analytics configured with AnalyticsWithoutAdIdSupport — no Advertising Identifier (IDFA), no App Tracking Transparency prompt, no cross-app tracking. We see counts, not people. We cannot link any event back to you as an individual. If you say no, nothing is ever collected. If you say yes, you can change your mind in Settings → Privacy at any time.
When that update ships, this page will be updated, the app version will increment, and the App Store release notes will describe exactly what changed. We will never collect data without your knowledge.
How Drift Works (Offline-First)
All audio files are bundled with the app during installation. When you download Drift from the App Store, the total download is approximately 15 MB (audio files + app binary). These files are stored in your device's local sandbox.
No streaming. No network requests. When you play a sound, it's read from local storage and played through your device's audio output. Nothing is sent over the internet.
Your saved mixes (Mix Memory) are stored locally. When you save a mix, we store the orb positions and volume levels in your device's local storage (UserDefaults). This data never leaves your device.
App Store Version Checks
Planned for v1.5: Anonymous version checking to notify you of available updates.
This feature checks Apple's iTunes API once per week to see if a newer version of Drift is available. The check is anonymous (only sends the app's Bundle ID: com.ekochestudios.Drift) and works regardless of your analytics preference.
Why we do this: To deliver new features and content to Premium and Founding Member users, and to ensure you have the latest bug fixes and stability improvements.
Privacy note:No personal data is transmitted. The check happens in the background and won't interrupt your experience. If the check fails (poor network), the app continues working normally. This is an offline-first design.
In-App Purchases (Apple)
If you purchase Lifetime Access ($4.99), the transaction is processed by Apple, not Ekoche Studios.
What Apple collects:
- Your Apple ID and payment information
- Purchase history (stored in your Apple account)
- Receipt data (encrypted)
What Ekoche receives: A cryptographic receipt that proves you purchased Lifetime Access. This receipt is stored locally on your deviceand never transmitted to our servers (because we don't have servers).
We do not receive your name, email, credit card number, or any personal information from Apple.
Permissions Drift Requests
Drift requests the following iOS permissions:
- Audio playback: To play ambient sounds (required for the app to work)
- Background audio: To continue playing sounds when the app is in the background
- Haptic feedback (optional): To enable Heartbeat Rhythm (Lifetime feature)
Drift does not request:
- Microphone access
- Camera access
- Location access
- Contacts access
- Photo library access
- Calendar access
- Notifications (no push notifications)
Third-Party Services
Drift (v1.1.1) uses the following third-party services:
- Apple StoreKit — Processes in-app purchases. Ekoche never receives your payment details. See the In-App Purchases section above.
We do not use Firebase, Mixpanel, Segment, Facebook SDK, Crashlytics, or any analytics or behavioral tracking service in the current version. Drift is 100% local-only.
Website vs App Privacy
This privacy policy applies only to the Drift iOS app.
Our website (ekoche.com) uses Google Analytics and Meta Pixel to measure marketing effectiveness. Your app data is never connected to website data. These are separate systems.
See our global privacy policy for details about website tracking.
Your Rights
We can't sell your data because we don't have it.
Since Drift collects zero personal data, there is nothing to:
- Request access to personal data (we don't have any)
- Request deletion of personal data (we don't have any)
- Opt out of analytics (there are none in the current version)
Your soundscapes, saved mixes, and preferences stay on your device. You own your data. We never see it.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Drift is safe for children because we collect zero personal data from anyone, including children under 13.
The current version of Drift collects zero data from anyone. Since we collect nothing, this is inherently true.
Changes to This Policy
If we change our privacy practices, we will:
- Update this page
- Update the app description in the App Store
- Increment the app version number
We will never retroactively collect datafrom previous versions. If you don't update the app, your privacy is preserved.
Last updated: April 14, 2026 (v1.1.1 — Corrected app size, removed false iCloud/Core Data claims, zero analytics)
